Ashley Freeburn

Ashley Freeburn, violinist, is an active performer and chamber musician from the Pittsburgh area. Ashley’s first love is chamber music.Ashley is a founding member of the Living Room Chamber Music Project, whose house concert series has become a local staple on the Pittsburgh classical music scene.  She was a founding member of the Freya String Quartet, with whom she performed extensively throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. An active proponent of new music, Ashley has premiered and performed several new works by living composers, both in solo recital and as a chamber musician. With FSQ, Ashley served as a member of the quartet in residence at the Charlotte New Music Festival and the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh.

Ashley has appeared with the Erie Philharmonic, and the Canton, Youngstown, West Virginia, and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras, among others. Most recently, she has been heard in performance with the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Resonance Works, and the Bach Chorale. Ashley has also shared the stage with such international artists as Barry Manilow, Belle and Sebastian, Josh Groban, Clay Aiken, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Ashley is frequently heard on Pittsburgh’s local classical music station, 89.3 WQED, performing both with members of the Freya String Quartet and with members of the Living Room Chamber Music Project. Ashley is also frequently heard on Pittsburgh’s independent radio station, 91.3 WYEP, in recording with several of Pittsburgh’s finest singer-songwriters, including Joy Ike, Ben Hardt, Tim Ruff, Paul Luc, and Juliana Carr.

Ashley believes in music as a means for cross-cultural dialogue. She has traveled to Ireland, Ghana, and Turkey, to teach, work and make music with local musicians. She is very interested in folk music, native influences, and local sounds.

Ashley currently serves as violin faculty at the Center for Young Musicians. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music with David Updegraff, and her Master of Music degree at Carnegie Mellon University with Cyrus Forough.
