Si Yu, a native Chinese violist, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University where she was admitted as a full scholarship student under the mentorship of Mr. David Harding. Ms. Yu has worked with such distinguished artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Micheal Tilson Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Meryl Streep and Lang Lang. She has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician throughout her native country, as well as United States, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Qatar. Ms. Yu has appeared at the Pacific Music Festival, Banff Centre, Beethoven Institute, Heifetz Institute and the SchleswigHolstein Musik Festival in Germany. From 2009 to 2013 Ms. Yu served as principal violist at the China Youth Orchestra. She has also been the principal at the Schleswig- Holstein musik festival orchestra, as well as associate principal violist at the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. She was a member of the Matisse string quartet who won the Pittsburgh Concert Society major audition in 2014. Since 2013, Ms. Yu has been the principal violist of the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, she is also a member of the Honors string quartet of Carnegie Mellon University.
